exactly, too much timing,or too little timing, could result in unburnt fuel.

More timing with that setup you should be at like 18 maybe 20

unburnt fuel=Black..white=water..blue=oil..grey=fuel w/water..water meth usually makes it lighter..how does changing the timing affect how black the smoke is? i would just figure it would change how much black smoke..more or less fuel burned??

to a point its black but if your timing is far enough off itll blow white white is raw fuel it doesnt even smell like smoke if its a little off itll get hot and be grey

i would say that black is fuel that is not completly burnt, but white is raw unburnt fuel.it'll burn your eyes.and as tater said if it has water in it,it willl have a grey look to it.

when you say grey is it "hazing grey?" or is it large amounts of grey? if its just a haze its getting pretty close to complete combustion and just a little bit of incomplete burnt fuel is present... which really isnt a big deal; and even considered normal if you have the fuel turned up. bump the timing as others have said; and as long as you arent losing fluids anywhere i dont think you have much to worry about

the high heat is what led me to believe low timing

yea i still got stock HG and stock bolts so i heard that any higher than 16* is not a good idea especially since im running 50psi of boost...correct me if im wrong. with water/meth, i run about 1600* egt's.

i may try around 19* timing if u guys think it may help. of course the last time i changed the timing the timing pin broke (I think). so how else would one find TDC without it....

well i know white is def not raw fuel..black is raw fuel..black and white equal gray..raw fuel w/water. i just dont get how the timing will affect the color of the smoke..ex: timing is advanced burns the fuel more efficiently, less black smoke..timing is retarded, more black smoke..i dont see how it phisically changes color..ex: black white grey..

im confused too. im not sure what this could be. i am not losing coolant or oil. surprisingly i am not losing any oil which is odd but i am currently running dino oil cuz i blew an oil cooler and wanted to run cheap oil in case i got some water in the oil. but i use to use oil about a quart per 2k miles. would a clogged breather do this? i will look if anything is coming out when i get to work tomorrow morning and let ya's know.

i know retarded timing will cause a loss of hp. with the setup stated above the truck made 407hp on motor. timing was right around 6* according to my calculations from my blue point timing kit. it runs alot stronger now at 17*.

Thanks so far guys.
