smoke question

here is a question for ya's. my truck a 96 12er, 0 plate full forward, gutted afc, 3k's, scheid lcdv's, coaltrain 5X.014's, sps66 turbo, and a fass holding 30psi. when i make smoke, it is not black it is a dark grey sometimes lighter grey. im not sure what this can be. my timing is set at 17*, it does not clear up when at 50+psi boost, and i can peg my egt's no problem (1600*). im not sure what could be going on here.:argh:

Thanks
Cody

doesnt the water meth cause the black smoke to come out more of a gray color?

it could be ur needing a lil more timing, but i dont think thats what it is.

i haven't ran water/meth in a while. i will on sunday, but just normally it wont blow black. if in park and just floor it it blows a huge plume, but like a mix of light and dark grey...confusing enough? lol

more timing try 20*

i have stock injectors and im going to bump mine to 17.5 next weekend my pickup does the same thing as yours but i have an H1C with an 18.5cm exhaust housing and i can peg my gauge in no time at all hopefully more timing will clear it up

i'd say look into the timing, from the sounds of it you have raw fuel coming out your exaust.

definately raw fuel

Biggy B 11-04-2009 09:07 PM

does bumping timming fix dumping raw fuel out exhaust?:pca1:

captain_stabbin 11-04-2009 10:20 PM

someone correct me if im wrong, but i thought when advancing pump timing it fuels harder!!!

12valvetater 11-04-2009 11:01 PM

timing doesnt add fuel it changes at what "time" the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber if you timing is to close to TDC it doesnt have enough time to swirl the fuel mixing it with the air charge before the air temp is high enough to cause the fuel to burn it fully and lots of unburn fuel is blown out the exhaust where it continues to burn and increases exhaust temps
