very good point. its chamber pressure not boost pressure that lifts the head.

I'm gonna take a stab at this one tryin to use a little common sense based on the subject here. When you "wash out a cylinder", does that mean the head lifts off the block enough to not necessarily blow the head gasket but allows the cylinder to fill with coolant? If I'm wrong can somebody explain it to me?

i beilve its so much pressure in the cyl that it blows right by the piston rings. but i could be wrong too i got my info second hand a long time ago from an old engine builder.

washing out sounds like too much fuel and you ruin your rings....just a shot in the dark though

yes washing out the cylanders has to do with to much fuel that it just forces it past the rings

i havent heard of wash out problems (i'm sure there's more) other than extensive low rpm idling, lugging, extended crank time and REDICULOUS fueling... something a sled puller would be modded for. washout is as simple as it sounds... the diesl fuel dilutes the oil film on the cylinder walls increasing friction and wear. actually i've read in principle; the design of a piston ring will increase how well it seals through pressure differential; low crank case pressure and high chamber pressure results in a better seal.
