Default looking at the next upgrade...

I am looking for some more power. What would be the next step?

1. I am thinking on upgrading to the 4000 gsk with the 60 springs

2. changing the turbo housings... ( I am not sure about the housing though)

I just want to get some more power. I do not want to buy a new turbo because the money is right now. I want more off the line and more up top. I think if I go with the springs it will give more throttle off the line and more pull at the top on highway speeds. I also think maybe I could change the housing for more flow. Stock is to restrictive. I can hit 1600 I know is way to high. If I am pulling a car on a dolly. I am just seeing what I can do.

thanks

A rack plug and modding the AFC for full rack travel should help out some. Whats your timing at?

I do not know the timing yet. I want to get it checked. I am going to wait to the spring meet in 2 weeks and they have the tools to do it.

My afc is gutted

How will the rack plug help?. I did hear of the rack going to far without the plate.

put your afc back in and tune it. and i have ran plateless for a couple years. all i have heard about is rumors on that and looked at break downs of the pump and its not really possible to travel to far.IMO

A rack plug with a correctly setup AFC will gaine you somewhere around 30hp. You gain 1 or 2mm of rack travel cant remember the exact amount. The only way your going to have too much rack travel is running no plug.

I ran a number 6 and stock plate with and without the afc and with the acf moved all over.

I found out that I get more with it setup this way. I tried tuning the afc but I just lose bottom end with it all together. Yet it might help me with fuel mileage and such but I did different pulls with different combos. So basically with stock plate,6 plate, and no plate I gained the most with not plate. With the afc I tried tuning it and tuning it and found out I gain the most with it gutted. Yes it will smoke but once the turbo lights it clears right up. I am not going to argue about this because I keep hearing about a tuned afc housing will run better than a gutted afc housing. I tried and tried different switches and found this gives me the most torque/hp on the takeoff but I need more. There is no lag of the turbo except the 1 sec than pegs the 35 mark. I just want more.....

I can only hang with the evo 9's till about 60 mph then they can get me but hey it is a 8000 pound truck. I just need some more to see where I stand then go from there.

Yes I am running the stock 97 turbo. I was reading and searching the housing and stuff. I guess the aftermarkets let you run 300 cfm of air more then stock.

I will search about the plug.

thanks guys

Yes I heard the same thing. It all started to scare people off and to sell the plates mainly. Also I guess you could somehow break a pin off from running it without the plate.

I NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE OR NEITHER COULD ANYONE ELSE FIND ANYONE THAT BROKE THE PUMP FROM RUNNING WITHOUT THE PLATE. This is what I searched for a year and found nothing or no one that would come froward also the people that are running plateless still are after yrs and yrs.....
