Default Aftermarket Tachometer

I just purchased an Autometer 2888 diesel tach, but it says to put the probe on the laminations of the alternator. my truck has nothing such of the sort.

I seen some aftermarket tachs on 12-valves, and was wondering how they got em to work...

for some reason i want a different tach then what came factory...

thanks
Cody

Bout the only thing you can try is move the probe in different spots on the alternator.
