Default pulling timing cover what all should i do?

well ive got a little bit of an oil leak from the timing cover so im gonna put a new gasket on it. while i have it off what all should i do? im gonna check to see if the kdp has been done (w/ 200,000 miles i figure its already been fixed) also wouldnt this be easier to put a rack plug in with it off? does the cover have to be off to change the pump timing? im not gonna buy all the dial stuff, im just gonna turn the pulley counter clockwise. anything else i should do?

Just a little leak can be a kdp. Why your in there check and tab the kdp also check the bolts that mate the case to the block. Make sure you get a new front main seal. Ive seen new main seals and the gasket at Oreilly for 37.xx. It happened in my 97 at 190K broke the case. I just had to pull mine off the 98 last week. Started with a small oil leak about 4 months ago. Thought nothing of it just of it Ive experienced a broken case first hand... Well started getting a raddle. Took the cover off and the KDP wedged itself in between the cover and case and made a hole for itself.

As for rack plug it would be slightly easier but you still have to grind on the timing case to get it in. Your just pulling the cover. Not the case.

Heres the install for a kdp tab. Pretty much the same thing your doing.
