Default High Idle

I was wondering if anyone has made a high idle for a 12 valve. I've seen one with a cable but I'd like to know if anyone has done it with an electronic setup. If not I guess I'll be the first to try.. Thanks!

Just be careful that you don't short any wires.

There was someone on another forum that had it in his sig, but I never found out exactley what he did. I was thinking about this too. The only feasible thing I could come up with would be to have some sort of relay that, when engaged, puts a "foot" inbetween the throttle lever and the idle screw on the injection pump. You would have to push the pedal down in order for the throttle lever to lift off the idle screw enough so that it could engage. But it would be constant, as you would theoretically be raising the idle screw, only with an elector/mechanical mechanism. Sounds good in theory, anyway. It would almost have to be a half motor/half relay to work, as it would need to provide about 30 degrees of rotation. Or you could have a simple "in and out" action relay.

Ive only ever seen mechanical high idles. Might be hard to get an electronic high idle on a mechanical pump. Not saying it cant be done but you will have to be pretty good with electronics.

I was wondering if you use the cruise control. Just raise the rpm that way. Once I get my cruise working I will be doing it that way if possible.

no dice for the cruise, though the guys with newer electronic pumps are lucky there as they can use the cruise buttons to high idle (needs to be enabled by dealer, its for utilising pto implements)

but, alot of people have used the high idle solenoids from old carbed GM engines (used on carbed engines with air conditioning) and mounted them up by the geartrain to push on the throttle linkage.

I know lots of guyd have done that with 24v's but they tend to not work so well with the 12V's they tend to not have enough strength.

A block of wood between the front of the seat and the pedal is what I used on my '99 Ford. Had a power seat in it and it worked great. Kinda redneck but who cares it works!
