Default Lift + Tires

Ok when I get my new truck Im planning on putting a lift and 35in MTs. I know that I need atleast a 4in lift, so what brand should I buy? I dont really care if the truck rides like a tank, as it already pretty much does. The truck is a 98 ext cab long bed 4x4. Whats the widest tire that I could fit on the stock rims? What MTs last the most miles? Thanks for the help guys.

Widest tire that will safely fit on the stock rims is a 285. These wheels are only 6.5" wide, therefore you wont want to run a 315 on them. You want at least a 8" wheel for a 315.

I would not run them - too dangerous. You might even have trouble finding a tire shop that will mount them for you as the rim is not wide enough according to the tire specs from the manufacturer. A good shop wont mount them due to liability issues.

As I said a 285 is at about the limit for a 6 and a 1/2" wide wheel.

I dont like tens as they tend to stick out way to far for my taste. Backspacing is a pretty important consideration here as well.

I am not sure about the ride height differences but I run 315/75/16's with 8" Helo Max wheels(not sure the exact offset but it seemed to set stock tires out about 2" further out from the inner wheel well) and a leveling kit by KORE performance on my 01 2500 with no rubbing issues and a lot nicer ride due to special shock valving on the front and rear shocks sold by KORE.The tires are 10 ply Hankook M/T's and do protrude past fenders 2-3 inches(sucks in the rain and mud).I have thought about adding flares but haven't gotten that far yet.I believe the KORE kit with new springs, front and rear shocks, and traction bar spacers ran about $613 delivered to my door. That is after adding the rear shocks not included in kit.I'm not trying to sell it for them but the ride is noticibly smoother, not like a brick like some lifted trucks I've ridden in.

Here is a shot of my 98 12v at my clubs Summer Drag/Dyno event which we held at Cecil County Dragway. It shows the truck with the new 315/75/R16 Pro-Comp Extreme MT tires on it.They are mounted on Eagle Alloy 137's that are 16x8 and have standard backspacing. They fit fine on the wheels with no issues at all and do not bulge out in the center of the tread due to not enough wheel width. The do stick out more in the front than the rear and all I run is mud flaps.

To ensure they would not rub I have utilized the Skyjacker D25 coils up front which level the truck.I did that because I did not want the spacer look most other run.I have the front double shocked with a BDS Suspension Double Shock kit that has been powder coated red by me and instead of the BDS shocks I utilized 4 Bilstein 5100's.The rear had been stock for a long time but after driving it like this I decided I like the factory 2" suspension rake better but I liked the height also.So with that said I had an extra ply to the rear springs and went to 3/4 inch u-bolts to ensure no possibility of movement.Doing that raised the back of the truck 3" and returned some forward rake to the truck.I also run Bilstein 5100's on the rear and all of the shocks are for a 3 over suspension. This is how the truck sits in this shot shown here.

Hope this helps some for you.........Andy

P.S.-The 315/75/R16 and the 12.50x35/16 are the same width and height.
