Default Holset HX60 over HX40...

So... i went to the local Cummins Dealer and they decided that they would give me a BRAND NEW HX60 and a BRAND NEW HX40 to put together a compound setup...

I will post the assy & application numbers later tonight...

Will i need to wastegate the HX40 to lower drive pressures ?

I will also be using the Marine HG, and 370 Marine injectors they gave me...

Will the spray pattern be incorrect if i use the Marine HG?

Hope you guys like this...

Spray will still be wrong. Use the thinnest copper washers you can get. Something like .010"

What housings on the chargers?

how thick do they have to be with the stock HG?

i will post up numbers a little later today, i told the technical advisor/sales representitive about my idea and their engineer/mechanic pulled these two turbos out and said they'd be perfect, but he was unsure if i had to put a WG on my exhaust manifold to drop drive pressures...

best part is... i got them for FREE !!

Just had to put a ad from their dealership on my truck..

Only way to make them be the correct pattern would be marine bowl pistons. Staying with the thinner gasket and thin washers will only help but not fix the issue. They will still run just fine but they wont be as good as a set of 5x12s in the correct pattern.

See if they will give you pistons too.

Here's a video of my pump being bench tuned, not sure if 100% extra fuel will f*ck something up, but we maxed it out...

Not 100% sure but i thought the hx 60 was a reverse rotation charger and not as desirable for higher hp applications?

Your thinking of a HT60 they are reverse.
Maxed pump will be fine. Will have to fine tune the afc to get it dialed in for sure tho.

That's what i was thinking too, what pressure should the foot be full forward, and should i cut some off the foot ?

Will i not need oversize fuel lines with the pump maxed out ? or will that only cause lobe ? should i not worry about fuel temperatures..

Both turbos are non-wastegated applications from Marine Cummins Diesels... The HX60 comes off the M11, and HX40 comes off a 6CT Marine 8.3..

They don't actually come off anything since they are new turbos, with the 4k GSK, marine injectors and maxed out pump ? i should have no problem spooling this ?

Anyone want to make a wild guess of what my boost will be ? EGTs shouldn't be crazy and i should be able to tow ?

I'm just asking since this is my first try at fabricating a Compound system...

I have mine at 40psi full forward which required a stiffer afc spring. To get full foot travel you will have to trim some off of the back so that it dosnt bottom out against the housing.

As far as fuel lines if you mean injection lines then no. You only need larger lines when the injectors get larger then the lines so for stock lines that would be. 072" if you mean fuel supply line you will want 1/2" line at 40psi feeding it because it will require more supply fuel.

Do you know what housings are on the turbos? That will have a huge effect on the spool and over all boost.

With the right housings that should be a real nice setup. Total boost will be 50-70psi depending on housing sizes. Should be a good towing set capable of supporting 600hp while towing and keep egts in check.
