Default Rear Axle= MPG?

okay so i just bought a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9 Cummins Quad Can Shortbed. This is gonna be my baby . Im just gonna use this truck for pleasure driving, take it on trips, keep it shiny in the garage . I saw on another forum that the use of different rear axles will drastically increase gas mileage? Ive never really dealt with dodge rear axles I am a Ford Tech so dont be to harsh on me lmao

I think you are talking about the 3.42 gears out of the newer ones.
