Default 2003 ISB 250/47re replacement Qs

Brand new to the Dodge world. After purchasing a 2003 from a private seller (who is an ASE certified wrench) my truck made it a whopping 300 miles before the bottom end let go.

Ever play musical chairs? I feel like the guy without a chair when the music stopped. It is what it is, and as irritated as I might be it is time to look forward....

I have an 03 ISB 250 (common rail). The truck has a 47re with an ATS valve body. Seems to be okay but may be in need of a tq converter.

Anybody wanna tell me the pros and cons of upgrading to an HO? (ISB 305 or can I even go to the 325?) Will I need to swap to a 48re? I rarely pull more that 3000 lbs and don't need to drag race light to light. I pretty much drive like a granny but want a truck that will be reliable and get 18-22 mpg with ease.

Any ideas on rebuilds vs remans and parts to avoid would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

J.P.

What let go? you say the bottom end but what?? and no need to go to an high output the 250 hp have 24v rods in then witch are better than the cr rods... And put a smarty on it that will even the playing field.... When Marco made the smarty he started with an ho truck so there you go. And the 47re will hold all the power you can make with that truck if built right.

Thanks for the reply!

I am 99% sure that it spun a bearing. I will know exactly which bearing by this weekend.

I've been thinkikng that if things look okay visually I will overhaul this engine vs getting a reman (assuming the cranck/block are okay for rebuild). If I go that direction, what are the best options for the head? Have the stock one machined or look for an aftermarket head? Same for springs/valves?

Thanks again!

what are you lookingto achieve with this truck? if you want and aftermarket head more power to you, your pocket book must be ALOT deeper than mine. They are far from cheap! just clean the head up, fire ring it, put some springs in, slap some studs in then stick it on. I'd put a hamilton cam in and call it good. that's just me, it's your truck.
