Default Indicated milage VS actual?

I was wondering why my milage is so far off from what the digital readout says. Its about 5 MPG off. It says Im getting 23 but I calculated it at 18. Also, Shouldnt I be getting better than that?

The overhead is always off. How high do you set your Quad?

The 'Lie-O-Meter is correct, PROVIDING your foot never vaaries on the throttle, there are no hills, no dales, no stop signs/lights, etc. PROVIDING all things never vary at all, you could expect to get the mileage shown.

Try this.............. Drive with the cruise off and watch what happens when you go over a hill and just coast down the hill. Mileage goes up. Then when you have to go uphill again, mileage drops off. So, THEORETICALLY, the meter is correct. It compensates for engine load and work being performed. If NOTHING were to change, your mileage would be pretty decent.

I've found that the meter gives a fairly good indication when I should fill up when I'm on a trip. That being said, I always fill up to a little mark I've put on the inside of the fuel fill tube and calculate based upon the number of miles I've covered.

Usually, I can count on the meter to indicate about 3-5 mpg better than it actually gets, and I still average right at 20/21 mpg on a long trip driving a steady 65 mph. It would be better I suppose if I had 3.73s in back.

I have find out if you don't reset the Lie-O-meter it will start getting more accurate over time.
