Default '03 CR waterpump replacement questions

Just returned from dropping my daughter at Vanderbilt U. in Nashville. Got back to San Antonio and noticed a distinct clatter from the front of my engine. Isolated it to the water pump (shaft was rather 'radical' going around) and shut down the truck. It's sitting until I can replace the dang thing. I've changed waterpumps before, just never one on one of these beasts.

Questions????

1. Has anyone done it at home?
2. How difficult is it?? Time consuming is okay.
3. Are there any really GOOD tech writeups on doing it??
4. Last but NOT least is ................... Cost??

Thanks guys and gals for any help you can give me.

Did mine at home last Spring.

1) Drain radiator-while it's draining
2) Release belt tension and have someone slide the belt off the pump
3) 3/8" ratchet, 3" extension, 10mm shallow socket to remove the 2 bolts, remove pump
4) Make sure area where the gasket seals on the block is clean, install new pump (weep hole down), torque bolts to 18 ft/lbs
5) Reinstall belt, refill coolant

Please note, if the coolant has more than 5 years or 100,000 miles, change it. Same goes with the belt, tensioner, and idler pulley bearing.

Also, it adds another step, but remove the fan and shroud. It opens up the front of the engine a lot more and makes the job easier.

Remove the two top bolts, and it will collapse enough to get the pump out...

Its a fairly easy repair, takes about an hour or so in a hotel parking lot...

I should have added that the truck only has 57,000 miles on it, 5,500 in the last three months. Still, the job doesn't seem to be too difficult. Better break out the tools and get busy.

Guess I'll add this as well, HOW do I relieve tension on the belt?? A simple answer, I know, but all my previous vehicles had multiple belts.

1/2" breaker bar. There is a hole for it to plug into, then I believe pull it toward the passenger side.

Waterpumps on cummins is cake... Pulle the belt and the 2 10mm bolts and put it in the fan and rotate it to the top of the shroud and pull it out past the upper hose... A few tips tho, when you drain you radiator if you use the little drain valve the rubber oring sometimes rips and leaks when you close the valve so I pull the lower hose and also when you refill with coolant pull the heater hose off the top of the head since it's the highest point on the engine therefore it helps in getting all the air out of the system
