Default HE351 turbo in an '03

I've been looking around and reading threads but wanting to upgrade the turbo and seen people talking about putting the He351 out of an '04.5-06 and putting it in a 03-04. is it worth the time and money? on a pretty tight budget and not lookiing for crazy hp gains. its a daily driver that plays on the highway every once in awhile. is the turbo swap direct bolt up? any modification necessary? anybody done the swap? any help or comments would be greatly appriciated.

Is it better? Yes. earth shattering? No. Direct bolt up? Yes. No boost control though unless you get a couple aftermaket parts with a boost elbow but nbd if you don't. But yes it does breath better and will cool get alil better as well.

thats good im not looking for earth shattering gains mostly due to budget, and ive already got an adjustable boost elbow on my he341 so ill just swap those over. is there anything i would have to worry about with electronice wastegate? and also the new 6.7's have the 351ve? whats the difference from the regular 351?

That's the part that would require an aftermarket part. Unscrew the electronic one and they make a plug that goes in it's place with a hole in the middle for the elbow. The 6.7 uses a variable geometry wheel in the exhaust housing. Fleece makes a controller for it but there goes the budget part of it

I've found the one ats makes, only $55 which isnt bad, but i have a smarty and would be able to disable it with the software, so with that being said is there any way to wire in the wastegate to an '03? or would that be way more trouble than its worth to try?

I just helped a friend do this swap and we used a oil drain plug and drilled and tapped it for the elbow. I think its an M22X1.5 plug you need. It cost us $3.00 at advance auto.
