I say he was wanting to go to a G56 (The NV5600 stopped in '05).
Another possibility for the computer is to just change out OEM ECM's. All the manual ECM would have to have programmed in it is the 'new' vehicles VIN. I wish I could remember which ECM I preferred (And that was just because the only visible difference was in the crisp-ness of how it controlled the engine. I just don't remember which one I liked best . . . )
I think it was the auto ECM that is quicker in it's engine controlling.
What are the differences or reasons to switch them anyway?

If his friend has a smarty Bob will send a update via Email that will fix all the problems swapping from a auto to manual. Its easier than trying to swap harnesses and computers. the update also turns off the auto portion and gear selection on the dash
