Ok, so i am signing on here because i just had my first fuel code come up since i owned this truck...
2006
Big Horn 3500 DRW
554,000+ miles

2 days ago i loaded up to take a load of cars and as soon as i got on the road the code came on and i looked and relized that i was blowing more black smoke then normal.. so i am wiery of the issue i took it to a local diesel shop for them to tell me i need 6 injectors, cp3 injection pump and a lift pump. from my understandings is that this is the entire fuel system right haha.. but the funny part is i have a F.A.S.S system.. going to the stock lift pump......

the truck runs strong through the gears still.. just blowing more then usual black smoke and the code is on.. when i was on the highway at highway speeds of 80mph i noticed that it has a slight hickup every so often you can barely feel when on cruise control.....

First off WOW on the miles! How has your milage done since this happened? When did you put the last set of injectors in and replaced the CP-3? Your dumping more fuel than normal but the code needs to be followed up to see what it actually pertains to! Bad injectors don't throw a code most everything in the fuel system doesn't throw a code! Do you have any guages? Fuel, Rail??

haha, i owned the truck since 17k miles and i had an FASS on it since 19k miles... and between 17k-554k i never replaced the injectors,cp3,or stock lift pump thats inline to the FASS pump installed...

I also run an Dieselcraft OC-20 on the fuel system between the FASS and stock lift pump... its suppose to filter down to less then 1 micron and i been amazed by what kinda of crap it has filtered out over the years that the FASS missed...

Sounds like the injectors then! You got 5x the use out of them! I'm gonna go look at that Dieselcraft OC-20 !!

P0148 High Pressure Common Rail (HPCR) Fueling Error Checksum

Usually means the requested rail pressure did not match the actual. Could be a th erail pressure valve, the pressure sender, the FCA or COV on teh IP, or as was suggested a whole bunch of parts.

You won't know for sure until some testing and probably parts replacement is done. If the shop is suggesting replacing all those parts they would have to provide with a myriad of test to support that diagnosis, otherwise its BS.

There are pressure tests for the pump and rail, return tests for the injectors, and readings to verify before replacing that much. Demand the proof.
