Major Truck Problem! R.I.P TRANSFOMER

Any diesel can run away. Doesn't matter if it's mechanically injected, computer controlled, common rail or not. All the computer does is control fuel delivery. If the engine finds another source of fuel, i.e. oil from the turbo or flammable fumes in the air, it'll run till it scatters, the fuel is used up or the air supply is removed.. usually by placing a board or something similar against the turbo intake tract.
You most certainly CAN buy internal engine components of the 5.9L Cummins, though depending on what's hurt and the amount of damage, the cost of an entire rebuild could very well be as expensive as buying a re-manufactured engine in a crate and dropping it in (around $6000.00 or so). A BRAND NEW crate engine will run around the $14,000 mark!
Good luck!

Do you have the receipt for the fuel? You should have saved a sample of the fuel - if the gas station is at fault and you can prove it - they owe you a new engine.

I think you better look for a different "mechanic" - they DO sell internal parts for a 24V Cummins. Your "mechanic" doenst seem very knowledgeable with comments like that.

My mechanic knows that there are internal parts for the Cummins but the block is cracked and the engine is trash. I just misunderstood him on the phone. So I had to ask again.

I'm not sure about possible insurance coverage on your policy. While I am not advocating this course action, could it have possibly been VANDALS that did this to you. Since you have explored every possible way the gasoline could have been introduced and can not come up with a cause, what is left?
Under this scenario, it would be covered under your comp and collision clause in your policy.
