Default rebuilt trannys

k my brother blew out another peice of dodge tranny i keep telling him to get the ats stage 2 but he wants to get it rebuilt buy some guy on craigslist for 1500 but ats charges 4700 for instalation but you get ats deep oil pan new input shaft and all new internalls and they paint it purple and oh yeah you get a 5 year 500,000 mile warranty i think there is jut to much price differance between the guy on craigslist and ats tell me what you think
heres his add
"Dodge Cummins performance 48re and 47re transmissions for sale. I have billit input shafts, billit intermediate shafts and billit output shafts depending on your needs. All transmission have performance clutch, added clutches for more holding power, and perfomance band, valve body is built for street or race. I have been building transmissions for 8 years, Dodge certified, and have built transmissions for diesel performance shops here in town. my transmissions will hold what ever horsepower and torque you can through at them. All transmissions have warranty. Thanks. call is best (720-231-7214)" keep in mind the price is 1500

used for hauling exactly what the truck is built for and ive had pevious experiances with dodge trannys i put three in my 99 1500 and it has only 112,000 on it and it was ready for another tranny and i just parted the peice of out and i will never buy another dodge auto again i was reluctant t0o buy a cummins cause of that experiance but i know the cummins is a good powerplant if it has a 5 or a 6 speed behind it but ofcoarse dodge it up with there clutches so um looking for a south bend

$1500 is probably just a stock rebuild with crappy stock parts.

The 727 platform all Chrysler heavy duty automatics up to and including the 48RE are based on is legendary. Dodge made some mistakes developing them for the Cummins application, mostly related to the torque converters and associated cooling inadequacies. The latest 48RE's in the '07 have had virtually all the bugs worked out and are great transmissions. They early 727's were also great behind 500hp street hemis. Any one in between can be built stronger than anything else out there in the same class with the right parts.

very true..the 727 hooked to the engine in my avtar has been literally beaten every time it is driven. It is a TCI unit with their converter also. The price you pay for an ATS or similar unit also includes enough leeway for them to warranty it if it fails. Our trucks produce 400 ft lbs of tq @ 1000 rpm stock..a slightly modded one producing 650-800 ft lbs at what..lesss than 2500 rpm?a full race early Chrysler 426 Hemi had to rev aprox 4500 rpm and up to produce 580 ft lbs..in a very narrow powerband.Engineers had to build a ft pump that can supply enough line pressure at a very low rpm to prevent slippage, enough torque management to prevent driveline shock. Most people on here freak out about the shift quality on these. For cryin out loud..its a 1 ton truck(even a 2500 is there really) that can pull payload that 15 yrs ago you would have to have had a semi pull. From reading these posts, the biggest problems with these trucks are the owners not realizing how much engine and truck they really have.I have owned many, many trucks over the years.None can come even close to the power, driveability and reliability that these trucks offer.

Right on.

The mighty Cummins produces a lot of torque. Most people arent really realistic about how much abuse they put the stock transmissions through.
