Default 06 CTD NO GO

I have a 06 CTD no mods except air intake and exhaust. I ran my truck all day here and there, went to park and and decided I need to move so the wife can get in went to start it nothing cranked and cranked and cranked no start tryed it twice. I let it sit for like 10 min started fine. I tryed it 5 more times and started fine. I didn't drive it anywhere just tryed to start it. about 1 out of 20 times starting it seems to take 10 times longer to start and normal. Any ideas, I was thinkin lift pump

Your gonna have to get some guages! Check your rail pressure. How many miles on it?

CEL= Check Engine Light

You cycle the key three times, and it'll bring up some numbers starting with a P, U, or C.

But because you got a Smarty, don't need to worry about it.

Thanks, I am using my bro's smarty to read codes, just got the truck and haven't had the time or $$$ to put into it yet but if it is a lift pump a air dog and set of gauges are on the way

IIRC, the "Invalid skim key" code is part of the security system. It will throw that code if you shut the truck off, then restart it without taking the key out of the ignition. I don't think that is your problem. If it is, something is amiss in your security system.

I cleared the code, and the truck seems to run fine. What do you think my problem is? I am kinda new to the CTD so any help would be great. Thanks

I got the same code once. Changed the battery in both my key fobs, and it never came back.

yeah in the 06's the key has to be in the ignition and the battery has to have power in the key fob because it sends a signal to something in the ignition system so if the battery is weak it won't start the truck or it'll start and run for a few seconds and then shut off, I'd switch the batteries in the fob then go from there
