Gear Ratio Change

Default Gear Ratio Change

anyone know if you can adjust for gear ratio changes on the S-06 POD? I know you can adjust for tire size, but I haven't seen the option to adjust for gear ratio changes, I only ask because my truck is getting re-geared to 4.56's from 3.73's because of the 40" tires I currently am running and having the 3.73's isn't helping anything in the drivetrain a whole lot, thank you for your time

The speedo sensor is in the rear end, and I believe they will flash the ECM with the new gear ratio. If that's the case, may want to reset the ECM to stock.

thank you for your reply, but what do you mean by they will reflash the ECM? I'm having a shop that does off road and diesel performance stuff do it cause well chrysler people won't touch my truck in this area, so i shouldn't have to worry about the ecm being reset

You shouldn't need to with a gear change because the vehicle speed sensor(VSS) reads off the rear differential carrier, doesn't matter how many teeth are on the ring gear. The carrier will turn the same revolutions as the axle. now if the VSS was on output shaft of the transmission or transfer case, then yes it would throw off your speedometer after a gear change, because now the drive shaft is turning more revolutions per axle/carrier revolutions(3.73 to 4.56 change). I hope this makes sense, if not, after you change the gears just go drive it. As long as you have your tire height set right your speedo should still be correct.

Like emp1134 said, assuming the tone ring stays with he carrier, the gear will have no effect on speed reading. That said, there may be compatibility issues with certain gearsets that would preclude re-using the stock tone ring. That would be a good question for the shop or tech doing the work.

thank you guys for the responses it does make sense to me, I only asked this question because i know the BullyDog i used to have offered to let me change the gear ratio so i figured maybe there was a reason they offered that, I have a GPS unit available so it's not a big deal i'll figure it out one way or another

I'm looking to switch my gears to compensate for my 35" rubber. Who would do this and how much would it cost? I don't know the terminology, but if you are running the 4.11 gears now, you'll probably go to 4.88 or 5.29's for better accel and mileage.

unless you have like 2.77's or something in your axles there is absolutely zero reason to re-gear with 35 inch tires, if you had 3.73's and 37"s you might wanna start thinking about it, but not until then
