Black oil
The danger with soot in the oil is when the oil's add pack becomes depleted enough to where it can no longer keep it in suspension. At that point it begins to agglomerate with itself, or stick together into larger pieces that can cause engine damage.
The oil film layer in engine bearings typically runs around 6um - larger than soot.
