All oils have a TBN number, but they all come out of the box different. Most diesel oils saly it on the bottle.
Over time acid from combustion by products "depletes" this number. Once it get down to around 2, then it's time to change it out.
And 15k on the new truck..wow, they are stretching it now. As stated, I'd like to see the results of an OA on a dino oil and a regular filter at 15k and see what it says. Not sure I would do thought??

one word of caution that I know and would also like more feed back on from those in the know ................is what about suspended soot particles...alot of us are adding more fuel so we end up with more soot in the oil....how is this playing out in the oil....I know I read about how the oils are designed to "suspend" that soot
Cummins/Cat/Detroit have always had extended oil service intervals on there engines, even with dino oil.

Yeah, I find it very odd that they left out the most critical component of testing a diesel oil.
