All oils have a TBN number, but they all come out of the box different. Most diesel oils saly it on the bottle.
Over time acid from combustion by products "depletes" this number. Once it get down to around 2, then it's time to change it out.

And 15k on the new truck..wow, they are stretching it now. As stated, I'd like to see the results of an OA on a dino oil and a regular filter at 15k and see what it says. Not sure I would do thought??

true true however alot of peeps from yesteryear still change their oil every 3 K

My soot level was pretty low, and that was with adding 2-stroke @ every fill-up.

Cummins/Cat/Detroit have always had extended oil service intervals on there engines, even with dino oil.

I'm probably going to stay with the Delvac 5w40 cause its still CI-4.

NO NO NO WHIT. With the new EO filters you can get 20-25K on the filter.

Yeah, I find it very odd that they left out the most critical component of testing a diesel oil.

Amsoils new extended range synthetic mesh filters. I've got 16K on one right now and analysis shows good.
