I need to take a look at what averages are, but what did it say for the oil? Did it say it was still acceptable to use at those levels? BTW, did you ever look into becoming an Amsoil dealer?

They said everything looked normal.

I don't have time to do the Amsoil thing. I wish.

Looks pretty clean. No TBN on this one?? That should be automatic on diesel oil but apparently it's not. If TBN were 8 or higher, I'd (IMO) go 10k on the next one
Very nice.

I went to Mobil 1, Delvac 5w40, when I changed the oil, and I'm going to go 10k and see how it goes.

10k is very easy for any synthetic oil to do..........however you MUST change the filter every 5k..........this new qt of oil you do when you change the filter will help the TBN number to stay high

ok here's my rookie question for the week:

what's TBN, why is it important, and what's a "good" number?

TBN....total base number

to get yer TBN you should send in a sample of brand new oil to yer analyser guy and he will run it and give you a TBN for that oil.

most analyser dudes wont give you a TBN unless you request it.....thats dumb

On these newer trucks, they have a 15k oil change interval, so I think the filter should be fine.

15K......I was unaware of that...WOW these damn trucks are gettin higher and higher milage per change than ever

one word of caution that I know and would also like more feed back on from those in the know ................is what about suspended soot particles...alot of us are adding more fuel so we end up with more soot in the oil....how is this playing out in the oil....I know I read about how the oils are designed to "suspend" that soot
