Default Programming Tire Size?

I just had two different dealers around here tell me they cannot accurately program 34.8" tall tires in the ECM for my 2007 5.9. They said there is some software change after 2006 that prevents them from programming tires bigger than 33". Can this be true?!!

And if so, how does Smarty do it? I am considering getting a Smarty Jr. for this purpose if I can determine it actually will do that, but MADS hasn't returned my email yet. I am curious how Smarty can do a little thing like setting tire size with various parameters (revs per mile, or whatever they use to calculate it) but the manufacturer can not. Anybody know for sure what is the deal with this issue?

The StarScan took away the ability to set the pinion ratio. The pinion ratio tables are still there but only preset values can be entered via the dealer tool.

Smarty allows you to set the tire height and calculates the entries needed to make the tables correct for the tire.

Thanks Cerberus, that makes sense then. And Stefano did reply as well, confirming the Smarty Jr. can in fact do this. Sounds like just another example of Chrysler shooting themselves in the foot. I suppose aftermarket will be only people getting any more of my extra truck money. Got a price quote request in here now....
