Does anyone know if it is actually possible to re-ring with out pulling the motor? Mine is showing signs of too much blow-by, and I'm not getting rid of the truck anytime soon and not getting rich any sooner. thanks

I have heard of people doing it in the truck. I see you also have a 04.5... Must be a common problem for that year

The problem is pulling the oil pan with the cross member right there. with my truck being lifted it is not a problem but you may want to measure first. More than likely it is your #6 though, which is tucked in the very back. Either you need to remove the cab or take the crankshaft out to pull it out the bottom.

Keep in mind that really is kind of a bandaid fix. If you are low on money then it could be worth it, or you may do all that work and then realize you need to pull it out. In my case with the ring blowing it scared the cylinder wall up, and you have to pull the engine out and strip it down.

IMHO, pull it out and rebuild it. DON'T drive it more than you need to you will only make it worse.

I was thinking it would be like doing an in-frame in a semi truck, but I think you are right I'll have to pull it. I better start saving

My estimate would be if I didn't do the upgrades at the same time it would be about $6500. The shop just finished a rebuild on a 05 truck and it only ran him $5800 because his cylinder wasn't messed up. Check around prices in your area though. I should have listened when they told me not to drive it that much, so my pain is your gain!

I GOT THE TRUCK BACK!!!

The motor just sounds amazing! I can not believe how quiet it runs now. With the valves and rockers in sync like they are supposed to be the engine runs completely different.

The turbo, oh gosh that turbo Basicly my truck has the same grunt that the Cummins has, but has a 6.0 powerstroke turbo sound to it. I am in love all over again

You would think that after all these years of making engines, it would be pretty well perfected... It's embarrassing when a Cummins diesel engine does not outlast a Honda Civic.

My engine cracked wide open at 98K (was the bad block) and thank god. I got a new one under warranty with a little legal work.
