Default 48RE TRASHED?????

the other day i rolled about 3/4 throttle in first and when it shifted to 2nd i locked up the converted via the tc lockup switch, it pulled great and then out of nowhere the tranny just let loose and the RPM's shot up, i imediatetly let out of if and unlocked it, every thing seems to be working ok still but the tranny fluid is a little dark and smells burnt, do you guys think the tranny is shot??

thanks for your reply, it seems to also have a surge when im at light throttle in first and second gear and im pretty sure its not from the motor, it feel like its slipping and grabbing back and forth, its not to bad but def noticible

yea that may be what it is, it is def something going on, if i go ahead and give it a little more throttle it quits and does just fine

Change the fluid and tighten the bands - INCH POUNDS!- and look up the threads on the John Deere Hyguard hydraulic fluid (synthetic) instead of transmission fluid - good luck!

Change out the fluid (may I recomend Amsoil synthetic) with Lucas tranmission conditioner and start saving your money.

Once it slips, the damage has already begun... If you rebuild a stock tranny, consider upgrading the valve body and converter to a team such as ATS or BD. This will help you down the line.

A stock converter even with a lock up switch can slip under strong power 200 hp / 400 tq over stock.
