And why not?

Adding a filter and a seperator isnt the same thing as a FASS (ie, it doesnt get rid of the air in the fuel system) but IMO it has to be better than having no filters at all.

So what is the issue with just having the pump like you got, why was it a bad idea for you, they usually work just as good just dont have the filters.

You just answered your own question, and what the OP was asking.

He is asking if there is a difference between the HPLP and the FASS and can the FASS components just be added to the HPLP.

Just make sure you run a max of a 3 micron on your common rail trucks!
If you use your factory housing AFE makes a 2M filter.

The air separation is over rated in my opinion. Just needs a 2mu filter plumbed in line and forget it. Just as good if not better. I have a FASS HPFP and I made 607 on the last dyno run. It runs 19 PSI and drops about 1.5 under WOT and I'm on stock injectors and CP3 but my Rail pressure stays above 25k the whole run due to my FASS and my EZ pressure box. I've had the HPFP on there since about 7k and I have 51K on her now running 7 mu stock canister filters.

I would take my suggestion on the GDP 2mu kit and roll on.

No thats a standard high flow filter. The High Efficency is a 3 or less Micron with a part number of 44-FF010 Fluid Filters Fuel Filters Dodge Trucks- 00-07 L6-5.9L (td) High Efficiency 44-FF010 - aFe Power

Dodge and Aftermarket vendors also offer a 3 Micron or less filter!

Thanks for the info. I've just been using the Fleetguard 7mu premiums. I'll have to give these a try.

Oky doky well the inline filter is an awesome idea and I suppose I don't need the air separation. I paid for the HPLP and it cost me $500 when I bought it (lookie they are cheaper now ) and if I add an inline filter it will cost me another $120 so im looking at $620 total for the whole setup. That means for another $20 I could just buy the whole FASS and be set with both. My question is would it be cheaper for someone looking for a HPLP, not the one with the filters, and sell it to them and then just buy the FASS system with the filters for myself? The HPLP on my truck has less than 600 miles so its still brand new basically. I don't want an Airdog because they need a hole drilled in the tank. I just don't know what to do. Could someone explain the benefit of the air separation part of it and if its even worth worrying about? I will ask the dealers for a price to see what they can do as well. Thanks for all the insightful help!

I know but I plan to push at least 550 by next summer and eventually want to make 750-800hp so I don't want to have to buy a new system each time I hit a new hp level.
