Default Tie Rod Update

One day my dad was driving along on the road in his '07 5.9L, and the RH tie rod end fell off... no harm done, but luckly it happened at about 35 MPH on a lonley country road and not at 65 on a busy highway. Got the truck into the local dodge dealership and found that the tie rod the warranty replaced it with is quite a bit bigger, and the ends are non-greasable, the old tie rod was greaseable. They didnt mention anything about a recall on these, but the larger tie rod comes up with the part number.

The truck is an '07 2500 5.9L, 4x4 single cab short box, bone-stock with 96K, he uses it on our farm/ranch daily, it has a hydraulic bale handler bed and it spends a lot of time working under load and/or rough roads.

I know if the tie rod in my '07 just falls off, it will surely be at about 85 on the interstate... might see the 'black dog' there I think.

Has anyone had this issue or heard of it?!

Just received a Safety Bulletin at work today covering this. A few new Dodge's in the fleet have experienced this, and I would assume most of them are 2500 Hemi's.

yep had mine fixed last year had about 30000 miles on it and had a death wobble at 85 mph sucked really bad. took it in and they told me about the recall on it and it was fixed. I think the only way they are fixing it is if you come in with the problem

I should have mentioned, there was a short peroid of 'death wobbles' before the tie rod fell off.

That is ridiculous. Should be a complete recall if you ask me.

What did the saftey bulletin say?
