Fuel economy help

Also I see so many think you drive an inline diesel engine just like you would a gas or diesel V style engine but you don't. Take the time and notice that a semi driver with a Cummins engine takes his time going through the gears and not in running up the RPM's real fast, thus they use the TQ of the engine and not the HP to get it moving. The same should be done with our engines as they are made to put out power at lower RPM's then a V style engine and thus give better fuel mileage between 1550-1900 RPM's and why it drops off after 2,000 RPM's. Yes our engines can run all day at up to 2900 RPM's but they do not get good fuel mileage at high engine speeds.
It doesn't matter whether it's a V or an inline!
Bore and Stroke have more to do with torque and horespower than cylinder arrangement! Your Cummins makes more low-end torque because of a larger stroke/bore ratio than the Duramax and new Powerstrokes have. Either way, the Duramax still makes peak torque at 1600rpm, which is similar to the 5.9L Cummins.
Semi drivers shift before 2100 rpm because if you go above that you can't shift clutchless. The transmission gains too much inertia and the gears don't slow down fast enough to engage without double clutching. Also, fuel economy and longevity of the drive train are much more important to those guys than it is to the guy who drives a 500hp pickup truck. It's their livelihood.

I've done the same KN and 5" from down tube back 6" tip. SAME economy...Now 5/25/12 I put in new nozzels 165HP. BAD move now it's poping a PO148 fuel rail code. Also blowing smoke bad at all speeds, lose of power.....SOOOO i'm going back to 50HP nozzels (stock). I tried using my stock program and my Praditor Tow program better economy stock. So if I don't get beter economy with the new nozzels I'm going back to stock everthing but K&N.......

Get a bed cover! ANd dont change rear end gears. It isnt worth the money. I did research into it and its actually a bad idea. Best things for milage. Keep the truck as light as possible, bed cover to improve drag, stay light on the pedal, and the slower the better. But if you really want bang for your buck build a biodiesel reactor.
