Fuel economy help
Bone stock 2005 2500 Dodge CTD - 4x4, 3.73 gears, 6 speed manual, 265/70 r17 tires, Cummins Exhaust brake. I get 15mpg hand calculated, and 80% of my daily drive is 75mph.
Anyone have any solid advice on better fuel economy? I see plenty of OMG I get 25mpg LOLZ!!!, but very little actual data. |
cold air intake, with a free flow exhaust with muffler, a mild chip like a quad xzt2.
drop you speed about 5mph its good for a couple mpgs I think thats the hardest mod to make Lol
keep rpms 2k or under
Best improvements I saw, were upping the the tire pressure to 80 PSI and dropping the drive RPM to 1800 RPM. I use to drive 80-85 every where, now it's 1800 RPM (about 65 MPH) and I'm getting 23-24 MPG.

Run 245 highway tires, not offroad tires, that will also gain you a lot.
And if possible, dropping to 65mph will also gain you probably 2mpg. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also, I don't know where to find them, but get a 205 degree thermostat. That will also improve your economy a bit. Keeps the engine warmer all the time, get better burning of fuel that way. :U: Check around on the net, you can pick them up for most trucks for like $30 or less. |
edge juice and afe cold air intake helped mine
I was told one time that your wind resistance doubles at 70mph... I don't know if that is true but definately, cold air intake, free flowing exhaust, a mild chip, and the best one is a mild right foot
im gettin 14-16 city with mine and all it has is muffler delete, i goin to do a mild chip and intake and 5in exhaust eventually
cold air intake and big free flow exhaust will help it :U:
