ISB guy looking into a CR
Did that as soon as i got it home.. He said the oil had about 3k miles on it but i always change the oil and filter after i buy a used vehicle, and the oil came out was really thick, i am going to run this oil for about 1500k and change it again.. I also changed the fuel filter, it was darker colored, i figured it was from the 2 stroke oil.. Havent seen any increases in MPG... Im getting a AFE intake for xmas gonna take the cat off and then we will see if that makes a difference...
I love the stick shift.. My next truck was going to be a stick no matter wat.. about a year ago i had a 94 Chevy 1500 with a 5 speed and duals.. i loved that truck and it is what got me hooked on sticks.. I am either looking at getting the smarty or the edge juice w/ atti. Everyone tells me to get the smarty, but i really like the edge cause it has the display and if i get the smarty, i gotta buy guages..
I just pick up my 04.5 HO 6spd , it was about 3.5 hrs away. On the way home i had the cruise set at about 72-73 holding 2100rpms and when i got back home i filled up.... 15.3mpg
My buddie who took me there has an 08 6.7 6spd with 35's was following right behind me and he said his got right about 15... I added a qt of 2 stroke when i filled up when we first got on the road.. The guy i bought it from said he changed the fuel filter every oil change.. It has the 3.73s How could i achieve 20mpg?? i just got it home last night so i havent had a chance to do anything to it. i was to take out the silencer ring and either gut the intake tube or replace it with a piece of aluminum tubing, and once i get it inspected, taking off just the cat...

We took a trip down to Florida this June in my truck. On the way back home, We filled-up on the south side of Atlanta, GA and made it to Columbus, OH, including a 100 mile, 35mph in 5th gear jaunt on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Smokey Mountains before the idiot light came on. That's 789 miles! I made it a point to keep our speed at or below 65 and I didn't use the cruise control. By the time we made it to a suitable fuel station, there was 807.8 miles on the clock and the DTE display was calling ME the idiot. Took 37.6 gallons to fill 'er back up to the brim. That's 21.48 MPG in an 8,000 4x4 truck with 4.10 gearing traveling through the "mountains" (sorry, the real mountains are about 1400 miles west of here). I love my triple-nickle Cummins. BTW, the average for the entire trip was a hair over 22 mpg, the overhead read 24.2!...I wish!

There was a TSB for "poor fuel mileage" issued for the Cummins "600" trucks when the '05's came out. This fixed a lot of people's mileage issues. The CAT running away is also reportedly a big help. My edge also gained me 2 mpg and if you do a lot of highway driving, a good tonneau cover can help a bit along with keeping your schit dry. Also, the fuel mileage "sweet spot" of these trucks seems to be 1800-1900 rpm's. May be just a case of slowing down a bit. Also, try different fuel brands. There can be as much as 3-4 mpg difference in my truck between fuel it likes and fuel it doesn't. Not to mention, if you live where it's a bit colder, winter blended fuel can have a negative impact on fuel mileage.

Where can i read about this TSB? See thats the thing i dont really do alot of highway driving.. I live about 3 miles away from work and there are about 4 stop lights between here and there.. And then running around the farm doing stuff doesnt help. When i was trying to get the better mileage, i was shifting between 1500 and 1900 rpms..
I live in STL, Missouri I am not sure if we get the winter fuel around here or not... I try to stay with well know company's to get fuel, phillips or mobil, i will have to go to the QT Truck stop one time and fill up and see how it does..
I would think diesel from a truck stop might be better because its probably newer since trucks are always filling up there so the truck stop is probably buying fuel more often than your regular small town gas station
I would think that unless you are buying from a station that has absolutely no business you are fine where ever you get your diesel from. I've never had a problem from all the stations I've got my fuel from.
