Default 2004.5 CTD No power and code P0148

Hi all, I'm a newbie here and am having some major performance problems with my 2004.5 CTD Ram 2500. It has very little power and is getting worse and it throws a code P0148 (fuel delivery error). I have tried swapping out the rail pressure relief valve, FCA, rail pressure sensor, and the fuel filter. I have also put in a lift pump pressure gauge and at WOT the lowest it reads is about 3psi. I am thinking that either there is an injector bypassing or the CP3 is going bad. Oh, trucks been to the dealer where they reflashed the ECM and this did not fix the problem. I have a 2003 parts truck and am now toying with the idea of swapping the CP3 but do not know exactly what's involved with that.

Welcom Eric

this is weird deal here, sounds like to me you have covered all the bases with the relief valve and filter, also 3 psi at WOT still sounds good too so at this point I am thinkin problems with the CP3 as well...................I know there is a bypass back to the tank from the CP3 but I dont think thats an issue???

I dunno man, we have some pretty smart dudes here so be patient and we will help out

is this truck still under warrenty?
have you bombed anything ...............injectors or programmer???
is this still the OEM lift pump?

The only mods so far is a muffler delete and the DPF is gutted. I did have a tripple dog on it about 2 months ago but I had to give it back to my bro as he only loaned it to me. When I got the truck earlier in the year I had to replace #6 injector which was causing some real weird stuff but after that the truck ran fine for several months. Oh yeah, this truck used to be a mine company truck and probably spent alot of its life idling, no idea whether that has any bearing on this problem. Thanks for the help so far guys.

dpf on an 04.5 ???????? sounds like the cp3 to me, and if it was, it may take a few injectors along with it, . nothing to stop bits and pieces from the cp3 from lodging in and ruining the tips.

No DPF on a 04.5 just a cat and muffler

at this point I am saying injectors myself but wont rule out a CP3

OK cat then, whatever it is it's a hollow can now. Does anyone know how I could test the CP3 or injectors on the truck? Is it difficult to change the CP3? When an injector let go before it had a serious rattle, major black smoke, and when the engine was revved over 2000RPM it stayed there. I have none of these things now. Thanks for the help so far, appreciate it.

I have to agree with the others in saying that it might be your cp3, anytime you lose power 90% of the time it has to do with fuel delivery. It sounds like the trucks been through alot. If you are saying that the stock lift pump is okay then i would look into that injection pump. Have you pulled each injector out and looked at the tips they also could tell a story if one s cracked...

also when you first start up use a temp infered gun and get readings from each exhaust port................................heat means the cylender is getting fuel

I have succesfully done this a few times

I don't have an infrared gun. Sounds like a nice tool though. Anybody got any pointers on how to change the CP3? At this point I have not touched the injectors for this problem.
