mine was built 2/??/04. and reads on the valve cover sticker 325hp 600trq.? how could that be?thats 4months prior? what exactly is the diff from the early trucks to the later? making that extra power?

Early 04s had two engines...the 250HP california and the 305/555 "HO". Mid 04 had a change in emissions, and the 325/600 was built as a 48 state emissions compliant engine.
The difference, beside the added power, is emissions. All the big 3 were locked in a diesel HP race at that time...the reason the advertised numbers jumped around so much.
And for what its worth, I believe I remember mine being built 1/04. Dodge is one of the worst manufactures to sauo say "by this date, everything was this" because they seemingly run change overs as they run out of old parts...

More duration, more pressure, more events are the main power differences. Injector tip hole count, spray angle, and piston bowl are the hard part changes.

They have a trial membership and you can run your vin ONCE per email address.
You'll know for sure if it's the 600tq motor b/c it'll show up from your VIN.
E.g. I ran my VIN and it showed:
XCKP Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel Engine
along w/all the other codes for the options on your truck.
Pretty cool I must say!
