If your build date is June or later its 325/600
If its prior to June its 305/590

If you call the dealership with your Vin, they can tell you everything. I had to do the same.

The 04.5 is 325/600 as advertised on the valve cover. I still own mine...the re-flash was to upgrade some 04.5s to the 05/06 software for better running and gained you the added 10 TQ.

for the manual tranny it should be close
to 290 / 570 at the wheel. im dyno'ing
mine next weekend, and will pull three
times with quad x2 on 0, 3, and 5 to
see what gains the box gives.

Early 04s had two engines...the 250HP california and the 305/555 "HO". Mid 04 had a change in emissions, and the 325/600 was built as a 48 state emissions compliant engine.

The difference, beside the added power, is emissions. All the big 3 were locked in a diesel HP race at that time...the reason the advertised numbers jumped around so much.

And for what its worth, I believe I remember mine being built 1/04. Dodge is one of the worst manufactures to sauo say "by this date, everything was this" because they seemingly run change overs as they run out of old parts...

No, model years start August of the previous year. MY04 start shipping August 2003.

If your build date is 01-04 or later its an 04.5 and a 325 engine. The switch over happend in January of 2004.

More duration, more pressure, more events are the main power differences. Injector tip hole count, spray angle, and piston bowl are the hard part changes.

Comprehensive Chevrolet, Saturn, GMC, Hummer, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Geo, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep, Chrysler, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda Truck, Mercedes VIN Decoder

They have a trial membership and you can run your vin ONCE per email address.

You'll know for sure if it's the 600tq motor b/c it'll show up from your VIN.

E.g. I ran my VIN and it showed:

XCKP Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel Engine

along w/all the other codes for the options on your truck.

Pretty cool I must say!
