Well I drove the 3rd gen last night. It was OK. I don't know how big a fan I am of the interior and I decided that I will never own a bright red truck. Just ain't for me.

Here's an odd question. This thing was an 06 Q/C, auto, 4x4. It supposedly has never had a box, programmer, etc on it but they guy did put gauges on it. He had it all hooked up correctly. But heading down an entrance ramp I got after it and that thing hit 1200* REALLY fast and climbed a little past. There wasn't any smoke out of the pipe to speak of. Is this normal?

On a bone stock truck? No that isn't normal. Either he has a modified turbo, big (or non stock injectors) or some other problem like lack of air.

Tough to say.

Did you cycle the key to see if there were any codes?

No. By the time I got this far I knew I wasn't real interested in it. I was just curious about it getting so hot. Like I said there wasn't any smoke and the turbo looked stock as far as I could tell.

Ya know, when I was driving home last night I was thinking the exact same thing.

Or could the air cleaner be dirty. Mine is pretty dirty right now and my egt's climb pretty fast. I also notice that it bogs a little off the line compared to when it is clean.

yeah thats normal. I've seen as high as 1550 while towing in total stock trim except gauges on my 06. The best fix I found for this is a quadzilla boost fooler. It fools the ecm to keep the waste gate closed. With this on there I can stand in it all day long and rarely see over 1350 at about 40-41psi versus the 1550 at 27-30psi. It seems to me the 04.5+ run hotter than the 03-04.5's I've driven one stock 03 before with guages and I never saw anything over 1100. I've driven three 04.5+325hp/610tq engines and they all run about the same 1400+.
as the wheel bearings I've got a little over 118k and no problems yet(one will go out tomorrow for me making this statement) U-joints are a different story, but I have towed some things

That IS ENTIRELY POSSIBLE. Thats exactly why guages are so important. Ive went from a BoMBed 00 to my 06. In a word...GUTLESS! I put the smarty on there and its way more gooder.

I DO like the 3G waaaaaay better than my 2G. Ride, comfort, steering, room, fuel eco, ect.
