ATF also has friction modifiers that reduces the lubrication qualities of fuel...keep the trans fluid in the trans and use a product engineered for diesel fuel.

I cannot understand why someone pays nearly $3/quart of ATF when a bottle of something like PowerService costs $8 and will treat 150 gallons.

Another thing to remember is the fact you are adding additives to fuel that already has additives in it...how do you know what you're adding is compatible with the additives already in that fuel? Remember that lubricity study done a few years ago...they tested on non-additized fuel...

Years ago ATF was essentially just light hydraulic fluid. In the more "primitive" diesels of the era, it burned just fine. Now like Steved said, it's loaded with additives that aren't burned and additives that can't be good in our high pressure CR fuel systems. Right now, it cost's me about $1.00/tank to treat with roughly 16oz. of 2 stroke oil. Been doing it for almost 3 years with not a single fuel system problem.

LSD wasn't put into use until like 1993 i believe so diesel before that time had to be even better as far as lubricity is concerned

??

I don't follow??

LSD and ULSD lose their lubricating qualities because of the refining process to remove the sulfur...the more they try to remove sulphur, the less lubrication the fuel has (and it is not directly related to the sulfur, sulfur does not equal lubrication).

Most around here would prefer HSD, or even LSD, to the current ULSD or the upcoming UULSD (less than 5 ppm sulfur) for lubricating qualities...however, we do like to breathe.
