Default 06 cummins tossing rod

So I just bought an 06 cummins with 94 thousand miles on it. Drove it about 300 miles to LA. On the way back I noticed a knocking sound. I merged over and bam check engine light comes on truck turns off. I get out and oil is everywhere and a rod is through the block. I was just wondering what maybe could have happened. The truck had no warning signs on this happening. Any insight will be welcome

Wow, that sucks! What condition was the truck in when you bought it? Who did you buy it from, private party or lot? Any service records or history on the truck? 94k is way too little miles for that thing to blow. Any mods to it? There should have been some kind sign of its impending failure. How much further did you drive it when you first noticed the knocking? These darned engines aint cheap!

technically unless it has a warranty. he is screwed. all he can do now is rebuild and build it better. learn from it, learn from the build. become one with your truck.

#1 reason is lack of oil! I do these all the time! Was the oil full and clean? Engine was run low or almost empty at some point! If your on the west coast give me call. Stock rebuild 7500 installed! And you can add whatever you want! Also if you want to sell it contact me! I don't care where you are if it's a nice truck I'll take it!
