A/C Question

Sounds like the evaporator cooler is icing up, when it does this do you notice if the a air comming out of the vent is not blowing as hard as when you first turned it on? If so then thats the symptom of icing. Also you may not see water condensation on the ground. This may be due to a clogged condensation drain. My dads truck does the same thing and I turn the heater on to de-ice it.

I do HVAC, and it sounds like it is low on freon. You need a set of gauges, not what they sell on the bottles. Those are mostly WAY inaccurate. If you can get a set with long hoses, check pressure at idle, and going down the road. The best temp is 80 degrees, but that isn't too big a factor.

Sounds like you may have a problem with your edge? Doesn't the edge plug into the map sensor? That could be sending a false signal to the ecm?

I’d bet on an electrical problem or the clutch. Possibly icing or pressure where it turns off after a while. I hardly ever use my a/c, and I turned it on the other day I think for the first time since I bought the truck and it made this horrible sound that I'm guessing was the clutch engaging on the compressor. It also sounds like a big rig driving around town with this low pitched whine that increases with rpm. The other day I had the a/c off just using the vent and I didn’t notice how cold the truck was until I got out into the heat. The a/c was definitely on. The nice thing about a truck is you can always go redneck by getting a window air conditioner, hooking it up to a power inverter, and putting it is the back window of the truck. You could also free up some additional HP and TQ this way by getting rid of the a/c compressor.

My 06 does the same thing the origional poster. When the truck is ideling it will freeze you out, but once you start driving it acts like it is turned off and the vent is on. Mine has been to the dealer several times for it in the past and they could not figure it out so I had given up. I drive her so rarely that it does not really matter anymore, but if I could figure it out that would be great. I live next to a AC guru so I will see if he can give me a hand with it and figure it out, hopefully by this time next week it is fixed, its getting hot here.
