Default Upper front ball joint

I started to hear a clicking noise going over small twigs and bumps. After inspecting it I found there to be a little slop in the upper ball joint on my passenger side. I have not replaced any of these and I'm in an 03 5.9L. The guys at the part store said that I had to replace the entire control arm as the ball joints themselves were not replaceable. To me this does not sound right, plus the entire thing was $112. When a ball joint was around $30.

I have replaced them on my '04 a couple times. Didn't have to replace control arm though.

If it is a 2x4 then you have to do control arm and BJ. 4x4's are just the ball joint.

Ball joints are available for the 2x4 but are a pain to press out and in! Easy to replace the entire upper A arm! I just hate that they use a cast aluminum A arm looks and feels cheap but I have over 100k on mine and they are still good! I got the entire set from Ebay that's upper A arms and lower ball joints!

It's a 2x4 so it looks like I'll be getting the sets on ebay. Thanks guys.

Yep, I did not want to mention that as it is hard to do and make sure things are correct or they want to fail again. Not sure you gain anything by just replacing the ball joint and may lose some integrity by doing it. The design definitely leaves a lot to be desired.
