2007 Cummins Ram 2500 as a DD
I'm looking to get a new DD and would like to experience the diesel world. This is the truck I'm considering:
Used 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Raleigh NC | VIN: 1D7KS28C17J535541
1. What can I expect for drivetrain longevity (especially transmisson)? The truck has 176,420 miles on it
2. Is there anything in particular I should pay attention to on the maintenance history?
3. Overall, what are your opinions? Good deal? Good option for a reliable DD?
I don't plan on modifying the truck anytime soon.

Really depends on how far your "daily drive" or commute is, these trucks aren't utilized well with short trips around town. A few clicks here and there, work and back, isn't exactly ideal on the diesel engines. The longer the trips and the less time idling the better.
As for the maintenance, and the transmissions, generally speaking they are as good to you as you are too them. Wouldn't hurt to check the band adjustment screw ( will only be able to see the front ) on the trans, if they arent showing much/ or any threads, you wont be far away from a rebuild, a transgo shift kit with come billet parts wouldnt hurt a stocker for longevity either.
Honestly, I dont see the need for a diesel truck as a DD, if you are occasionally pulling with it, i still think a gasser is a better option unless you have deep pockets, or are knowledgeable with diesel engines. The repairs for these trucks can be ten fold compared to gassers, and the modifying thing, trust me, it goes out the window! This of coourse is just my 2 cents, they are wild rides and the possibilities are endless. Practically speaking though, if you aren't going to tow, and its going to be nothing more than grocery getter, better off with a gasser. regardless, best of luck!
