Starter upgrades for 03 5.9
I'm new to the forum I've got a 2003 5.9 standard output automatic cummins with 231000. motor runs good sounds good doesn't leak or burn oil. The only upgrade I have done is changed the exhaust by deleting the muffler adding a exhaust tip. Doesn't have cat straight pipe to 8 inch tip. I found a edge juice with attitude programmer for really cheap new but is the one with out monitor has a flip switch that only allows 3 stages. 80hp it says. Just ordered a fass 150 gph lift pump mine is weak. What can I do to try an get some more hp. Heard blowing black is just wasted fuel but it sure does look cool. Smash down on my truck it's disappointing might get a puff of black.. Any ideas or suggestions welcome.
Will say I'm new to cummins so don't laugh
Thanks

that one with 80hp that your talking about with the 3 position toggle sounds more like the edge EZ, that's what my old man has in his 04. he likes it but his truck is is the h.o. my 04 unfortunately came with California emission equipment so was lacking almost 100hp from his truck. I put a banks 6 gun with pda screen and speed loader in it and could slip the tranny on #3, so id be careful what you put into it without doing some tranny work first,

Get rid of the Edge and get a Smarty to start with. Used Edge's are not a great deal and will cause you more issues than you want to deal with.
Sinc eit is an SO engine you have to e careful with the power you put thru it. The SO's did not have the HO options to handle higher heat and more as easily. You need some gauges before even starting to add power.
Careful with what you do add, the 47RE, if that is what you have, is not going to like too much and any heavy right foot driving. Need to know build date to narrow down the options.

Ditto on the gauges. Also upgrade your air filtration system with a CAI kit or swiss cheesed air filter box with aftermarket washable drop-in air filter. That will allow more air into your engine for a bit more power, quicker spool-up, decrease in black smoke, mileage increase, and lower EGT's.
