2nd gen manifold swap
I just bought an 06 2500 mega cab and I don't know much about them. say I hv an 00 that I know pretty well. I rebuilt the engine in my 00 the past winter and I hv the stock manifold still. and iv been hearing guys talk about 2nd gen manifold swap. say I hv the manifold just need to know what else I need and what to do. pics and how too would be nice. and what's the pros and cons of doing the swap. say the 06 has a S&B cold air and intake manifold. mbrp 5in cat back. H&S mini maxx. lil off this topic but how much will the stock trans hold up too? should I get some work done to it having the mini maxx on it?
I went ahead and bought the whole kit from Stainless Diesel, especially since the turbo's location was moved FROM close to the back-bottom of the engine TO the upper-center. With that changing locations...so did other things, but it's included in the kit.
I've read about people using the stock turbo, but I bought the BorgWarner 63/68/14 turbo with the wastegate. I only really bought this kit for the deeper sound and the slight power gain. The biggest problem we had was with the down-pipe and the transmission dipstick line. I NEVER read about anyone having that problem, but of course, for me, that kit wasn't going to go in, unless we bent and moved the transmission dipstick out the way.
I'm running this with the Smarty Jr. on a stock transmission, but I wouldn't push it. After I saw what it could do (power-wise), I put the programmer to "Towing" mode so that it would last a little longer.
The main things in the kit were the down-pipe, intercooler tube, manifold, S&B intake, and then whatever turbo you choose. All the bolts, gaskets, etc. for everything is also included.
I don't have many pictures, but the first picture is where we moved the dipstick tube to and the last picture is the way it looks when complete.

Honestly, it didn't change the sound as much as I thought it would but, it did some what get rid of the raspy/choppy sound. I've noticed that it does have a slightly deeper tone. It would probably sound super fine with a 5" exhaust...but all I have is the factory 4" exhaust pipe with the MBRP "cat delete pipe" and a regular piece of 4" exhaust pipe in replace of the factory muffler.
