Default Will she smoke?

Hey im going to be putting on a cat delete pipe and now im just curious. My truck is stock from what I know previous owner did haul a 5th wheel though.. but when I get on it she can dump some decent smoke. Im not sure if a stock cummins should be doing this in the first place but once the turbo spools and i lay on it i can get it to poor straight smoke for quite a while during acceleration of course... the smoke is a grayish black color and not the solid black my guess is because of the cat? Will removing the cat cause it to be sheer black? Also im hoping that this is just unburnt fuel like it should be nothing else? One other thing to ive only seen it once but at an idle it was actually puffing a little of that grayish black smoke as well. Im positive its not oil theres no blue tint and this truck is a baby yet this thing just hit 80000 im just kinda curious as to what the deal is here? Thank you.

When you idle them around they build up soot that gets blown out when you hammer it. Could be in the CAT but more likely the muffler and tail pipe.

Mine is straight pipe from the turbo to the tip. On the stock tune it doesn't smoke at all.

I mean this isnt a little puff I can poor it out ive raced a couple different people just for ***** and giggles and one time we started at an intersection and i was brake torqueing and let her go and I just filled that intersection with smoke. Coolant levels are great and she doesnt burn oil. Im not sure what im running for boost but i am looking into gettin the the pillar pod kit sometime in the future. But im in the dark as far as boost goes i couldnt imagine that much soot is building up on a day to day basis this is any time i get on her even the other day i was cruisin down the strip and there were some ladies on the sidewalk and of course i had to rev her up a little bit mind you i just got off the highway just before and i just punched her a little bit in drive and she was blowin smoke. I think this is weird because i know a couple guys with stock cummins who cant get theres to smoke to save their life even with higher miles. I was thinking that they mighta upgraded something theres no chip or anything like that though on this truck no evidence of modding its just kinda weird.

I think you could have a boost leak, or some injector troubles. I recommend building a boost leak tester and possible pulling injectors to have them flow tested. Someone could have installed some larger injectors also.

Is there dead give aways if the injectors were changed? Wouldn't a boost leak through a DTC? Or cause it to run rough?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

How massive would the boost leak have to cause that?

Not necessarily, I would build the boost tester first it is a cheap and effective way to check for boost leaks.

If I do come up with a boost leak could that mean the turbo is crap?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Ahh i get it your testing intercooler and hoses as well.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

How do you clamp that thing on? with the band clamp off the hose?
