Key Trick got me 4 codes
I just bought a 2002 Ram 2500 with a Cummins S.O. and a 5 speed. Only 80k miles. I just did the "key trick" (on off three times) and got 4 codes!
The truck has no check engine light, runs completely fine, and while I've only put 350 miles on it since I picked it up, I've done highway and city driving. It seems to drive perfectly.
The codes are:
P1388
P0216
P1693
P0460
Could these be stored from a previous issue the last owner had?
The engine is incredibly clean, so much so I suspect it may have been pulled at one point, it just looks too "new" and all of the orange thread lock is still very bright, along with blue marks on the engine head.
In addition, the front hang point is slightly bent, and looks as if a chain was hooked up to it.
It does have a Jake Brake on it, but I don't think that installing would require an engine pull...
Any help is appreciated!

Bump...
I'm a little worried, does anybody have any insight?

You can have codes without the check engine light. other codes your showing are auto shutdown relay p1388 and fuel level sending unit p0460.... p1693 means there are ecm/pcm companion codes, you should use a good scanner to see what they are.
I highly doubt p0216 is stored. If your truck has 80k and it's been on stock lift pump its whole life... its time is probably up.

Ok thanks for the tip. I'm visiting a mechanic that specializes in Cummins diesels tomorrow, and he offered to scan my truck. So I'll see. Like I said, I've noticed no symptoms of a VP44 malfunction, and am getting plenty of power. Also just averaged 17.5 mpg combo of city/highway driving.
In NC part of our state inspection is OBDII, and the truck JUST passed. Typically, if there are any trouble codes, it won't pass. I know this because my other car is a land rover discovery that likes to throw check engine lights right around inspection time every year...
