Bought a 2000 truck 190k on it. Just bought it for engine and trans, but trying to figure the last piece of the puzzle. It stutters just a bit on startup. At idle, stab the throttle, bunch of black smoke. Drive it, and pours out black smoke pretty good, just before boost really comes in, say around 1500rm. Runs great, idles smooth otherwise. Truck has gauges, exh brake, 4" straight pipe, and injection pump is real nice and clean. However no chip. The datalink plug does not have a cover on it either. Leads me to believe it was chipped, and the injectors are not stock (due to smoke, and stutter). It is a little slow to start, but I know that can be a few things, Ive owned a 98.5 for 100k now.

Questions:
-any way to find out what they are for sure? send out to someone?
-Im shooting for mileage out of the engine (more power without loss of mileage is good tho), assuming they are larger injectors, would this be helping mileage, and keeping egt's lower, or the other way around? I do have an edge comp that will go on this engine, once I get a datalink adapter.

Since I bought the truck for engine, its not registered, nor planning too. The front end loose, so I dont want to drive it anyway. With that, I couldnt say what mileage is currently, or after edge.

EDIT: Should mention the truck has a FASS, and 14psi of fuel pressure constantly
