im look at buying a 99 cummins 2wd and they guy said it doesnt have reverse. he said the guy that rebuilt the tranny said it was the clutch? is this even possible? its a 5 speed. any help would help a lot. thanks

I'm no transmission expert, but I can't imagine how the clutch on a manual would eliminate reverse and allow the other gears to work. Don’t buy the truck unless you're ready to replace or rerebuild the trans. And find out who rebuilt the trans last, and go somewhere else.

That's what I was thinking. But he only want 6500 which is very cheap for a cummins around here. But I might keep looking. Thanks for the reply!

I would think its the transmission too, because why would the fwd gears work and not reverse? I rebuilt my transmission myself but if you pull it out you can probably get a shop to rebuild it for $350-$400. Unless you have a bent shift fork or something like that.
