Default New headlight or polish?

I have a 2001 Dodge 2500 and the head lights are real faded. Has anyone tried polishing the lens or is it better to just replace them? Any tips?

They make polishing kits now but before that I had pretty good luck wet sanding with 600 grit and then using mothers metal polish with a little buffing wheel on a die grinder.

I replaced one of mine yesterday and polished it with fine paint cutting compound, followed by polishing compound and waxing. Came out so well with little work that I did the other side also. Look like new but I have not yet driven after dark so can't give an idea how much it helps on lighting.

I have tried several things but the best thing as far as a permanent fix that I recently did to my 98 was to sand with 1000 grit sandpaper and clean them well, then spray with clear enamel.. Mine look like new and I will not have to re-polish them frequently

I used the 3M headlight restore kit on my Ram... AMAZING!!! Worth every penny! They looked brand new! Did the fog light too... Wax the crap out of them after though.

i heard of the 3M kit. why did you have to wax them after? my headlights are terrible, the fog lights are ok and the trun signals are perfect. i dont know if they were replaced. how about for really bright headlights... change the bulbs? suggestions on brands or types?

Waxing them helps protect them. However... as stated above you could probably clear coat them for better effect maybe?
