boost and EGT question
if you keep the egt's under 1300 and boost to 32psi it will purr for a long long time. you may have to replace a vp pump once or twice but thats about it. as stated above you need to get an aftermarket lift pump like a fass and I don't know if you have one but a fuel pressure gauge if you don't or thats one thing that will leave you stranded in a heart beat
Yeah, and a VP44 Cummins can run with 0 fuel pressure at WOT. I know from experience. BUT, it's not good for it. Just because it does it, doesn't mean it's good for it, and just because you've done it, doesn't make it the right thing to do. We all have done it, so no one can point a finger at someone else, me included, and say, hey, you're stupid, you did that and that's bad. However, on the other hand, especially if someone's knew, let's try NOT to give them information, that while it may be POSSIBLE, isn't the right way to go about it.
An HX-35 is out of it's map at 40 psi. The max boost you can get, where you're still actually getting the most performance out of an HX-35 is 35 psi of boost. Anything after that, your gains are minimal, as you're simply blowing hot air.
Like my next comment...I've ran my 01 with a 64/71/14, 150 injectors, and an Edge Comp stacked with a TST Comp. I killed my VP44 with that combo, so I had to replace it. (I also had an Airdog 150 on it at the time too, I just think that VP had reached it's limit by then.) I ran this combo, with the turbo wastegated at 40 psi, but I'd still reach 50 psi. I ran without headstuds, which while I never lifted my head, it made me nervous hammering on it without them. I had every intention of doing headstuds, but ended up selling the truck before I did it. Yes, I ran 50 lbs of boost quite a bit, with no studs, but I understood that I was playing with fire, and asking for a blown headgasket every time. Did I do it? Yes. Do I recommend it? No.
Just asking that you ensure you explain all the facts, and lay them all out before you just go saying, hey I did it, so it will work. Just let the individual know what they're getting into doing this, and the potential risks should they choose to go that route.
