boost and EGT question

I have a 1998.5 24 valve. Not much on it except a Van Aaken programer and 4'' exhaust. This is my work truck and I put over 150 miles a day on it 6 days a week. It has 243+ on it and runs like the day I got it. What is the max boost and EGT temp I can run this truck at. I bought it used from a cummins mechanic but am not sure if it has the upgraded head studs on it or not. I dont want to push my luck but here in colorado I do alot of uphill driving. Thanks...Chris:humm:

Also wondering how many more miles I could get out of this truck before thinking of a rebuild on the engine. I change the oil every 4,000 with schaeffer synthetic blend, change my fuel filters on time and flush the fluids. Doesn't burn or leak any oil and its still pretty clear when I drain it??? any input would be much appreciated

Well I wouldn't boost over 40 without head studs. EGTs don't run them over 1350 for extended period of time. With proper maintenance there is no reason you shouldn't hit 500k plus milage from this truck.

Oh yeah welcome to the ever addicting world of DB

theres no way his stock Hx35 can make up to 40psi but if you ever but upgrades like a programer or chip dont let your boost get above 35psi thats the safe max for a stock Hx35 and egts no more that 1300 like sthrnrider said. your guage should have a green yellow and red zone.

Thanks guys....my boost gauge doesnt have the green yellow and red zone but only goes up to 35lbs. I have been letting off at 20lbs or 1000 deg. because I had no idea how far I could go. The only other diesel I have owned was an '05 F-350 6.0 and this is the first dodge I owned.

First off I never said his stock turbo would hit 40 if you read his post he asked for a safe max boost and EGTs. And I gave him what he asked for.

No your boost gauge wont have the colors but some pyro gauges do and some don't.

What all mods are done to the truck?

Schultz83 02-15-2012 08:51 PM

This truck doesn't have many mods. Van Aaaken programer, exhaust, gauges, 110 gallon diesel transfer tank, road armor bumper and a set of mud tires. Next I'd like to install an exhaust brake.

Just keep the turbo spooled up and watch the EGTs you will be ok.

One more thing I'd be looking into a new fuel pump Fass or air dog
