in tank lift pump, injection pump if not replaced, make sure its not the 53 block which is prone to cracking (the block number is casted with a big 53 on the driver side bottom by power steering pump), those autos are junk so make sure its rebuilt at least and thats the major inssues right there

the VP44 sucks
I disagree with this poorly justified statement. The main reason the VP44 goes out is due to low lift/transfer pump pressure. The VP44 used fuel to lubricate, and cool the pump. Other pumps used engine oil and fuel. Keeping at least 10PSI to the VP44 will give it a long and happy life.

Vp pumps can still go out with propper supply fuel. Pump problems can still occur with an aftermarket fuel system or lift pump on the truck. Not to mention the inability to create high injection pressures needed for high performance applicationsin stock form and if using any vp modified beyond the specs of a "hot rod" longevity is greatly reduced. I agree that you can increase the pump life in most occasions with a good fuel supply but its not a fix all. I would say in general the vp44 does in fact suck.

So don't get one. Instead of bashing a fuel system, try helping a member. Do remember that that pump is over 14 years old. Common rail technology was just a thought then.

I agree, I actually like vp trucks but, you have to admitt the vp could be better. The p7100 is older technology but, it has been proven time and again as a superior injection pump. Would have been nice to see a p pump 24v roll out of the factory.

The VP44 may have its downfalls, but keep at least 10psi to it and you wont have issues. It's just not necessary to swap a p-pump on to a 24 valve unless you're a puller or racer looking for big power. If you want to, then go ahead. I've thought about it myself, but I like having the ability to plug in a tuner and be able to adjust my power level in a matter of minutes, even less if you have something like a comp. The VP still supplies enough fuel to support 650-700hp which is more than average true daily driver will see, and with some of the newer pumps you can make even more than that. I'm all for pointing out the downfalls of the VP44 but straight up saying it sucks is a flawed statement.
